Einleitung

ParshipMeet Holding GmbH, one of the leading providers in the field of online dating, faced the challenge of increasing its market share and expanding internationally through the acquisition of ElitePartner and later eHarmony.
Leading Lights supported Parship in consolidating the acquired platforms into the existing Parship application stack, migrating all data, and developing new features.
The successful migration and integration resulted in a two-thirds reduction in the IT landscape, leading to a significant increase in efficiency and an improved customer experience.

Starting Point

ParshipMeet Holding GmbH is a leading company in the online dating market with revenues of €375 million and around 500 employees, originally active primarily in the DACH region. With the acquisition of ElitePartner and eHarmony, Parship pursued the goal of strengthening its market position in Europe and expanding into the US market. The initial situation was characterized by three technically completely different platforms, the parallel operation of which would have massively increased development and operating costs.

Challenge

The biggest challenge was integrating the incompatible IT stacks and individual services of ElitePartner and eHarmony into the Parship platform. Operating all three portals in parallel would have tripled the cost of operation and further development. Complete consolidation and migration of all existing data to a central platform was therefore necessary in order to achieve economies of scale and ensure future viability.

Solution

Leading Lights provided comprehensive support to the Parship development teams:

Development and implementation of ETL processes for migrating all customer, matching, and billing data
Conducting test runs and load tests (including with Gatling in AWS)
Development and integration of all necessary must-have features for the new user groups
Automation of the IT infrastructure using Puppet
Support in the introduction of a new application performance monitoring tool (Instana)
The entire integration process for each platform took approximately 8 months and was completed with minimal downtime.

Result

The following successes were achieved as part of the project:

After successful migration and cutover, the old ElitePartner and eHarmony platforms were completely shut down.
Running all applications on a central software stack reduced the IT landscape and led to time savings of almost two-thirds in ongoing operations and development.
New features such as “icebreakers” and smart sorting of partner suggestions noticeably increased customer satisfaction.
The performance and efficiency of the platform were significantly improved, especially in the processing and sorting of large amounts of data, in order to accommodate the increased number of users.
