SPORTFIVE sees itself as a pioneer of digital transformation in the sports industry and aims to support its clients particularly through digital innovations and data-driven services. The key factor is that all IT initiatives are consistently aligned with the business objectives and the business model.
The central challenge was to build a bridge between business objectives and IT initiatives. The task was to derive concrete operational IT measures from the strategic goals, prioritize them, and implement them within a unified program.
We implemented our workshop format “Business Value-Driven IT Alignment.” Together with the IT management team at Sportfive, we established a close, strategically sound connection between the current business model and the supporting IT initiatives.
The starting point was the structured development and visualization of SPORTFIVE’s business model using the Business Model Canvas. Building on this foundation, business-relevant IT initiatives were identified, assigned to clear business objectives, and visualized in a Strategy Execution Map. Each initiative was documented in a standardized Strategic Action Card that transparently presents strategic goals, customer benefits, and challenges. By finally prioritizing the initiatives according to benefit and effort, an initial IT roadmap (1–3 years) was created, which consolidates relevant projects in a structured way and provides a clear basis for implementation decisions.
The consistent alignment of the IT strategy with business objectives will remain the key success factor for SPORTFIVE in the future. By closely integrating IT initiatives with the business model, innovations are systematically driven forward, resources are optimally utilized, and clear priorities—such as in data-driven marketing—are established for the coming years. This ensures the company remains flexible and responsive to new requirements.
To successfully implement strategically relevant projects, personnel have been specifically expanded. This forward-looking investment in skills and capacities underscores the commitment not only to plan digitalization but to implement it sustainably. Leading Lights is pleased to have demonstrated together that investments in digitalization are not mere costs, but value-enhancing measures that drive sustainable growth and strengthen the company’s value.
